Frequently Asked Questions

Kirsten works with women navigating anxiety, burnout, people-pleasing, depression, low confidence, and major life transitions. Many of her clients are high-achieving women who look capable from the outside while carrying a harsh internal voice and a nervous system that never fully switches off. She also works with empaths and highly sensitive people, and with women building businesses who are trying not to burn out doing it.
-
Yes. Kirsten offers a free 15-minute consultation before you commit to anything. It's a short call to ask questions, get a sense of how she works, and see whether it feels like the right fit — for both of you.
-
The first session is simply about getting to know each other. There's no agenda to work through and nothing you need to have figured out beforehand — the focus is on becoming comfortable together and beginning to build a trusting, safe environment. That foundation is what the rest of the work is built on.

Kirsten is licensed to provide therapy to clients located in South Carolina, New York, California, Georgia and Florida. Because therapy licensure is state-based, you need to be physically located in one of those five states at the time of your session. She is based in Charleston, South Carolina.
-
All therapy sessions are virtual. Kirsten works by secure video, which is how she sees clients across five states rather than only in Charleston. Sessions run on a HIPAA-compliant platform with bank-level encryption, and you can join from anywhere you have privacy and a reliable connection.
Kirsten does also work in person, but at retreats, workshops and speaking events rather than for ongoing therapy — those are separate offerings, and current ones are listed on the Books & Retreats page.
-
Sessions are 50 minutes.
-
Therapy begins with weekly sessions, and the frequency is adjusted from there as needed. Meeting weekly at the start builds continuity while you and Kirsten get to know each other; as things settle, the cadence can change. The membership plans are built around that range, from two to eight sessions a month.
-
Individual sessions are $225. Kirsten also offers monthly membership plans at a reduced rate of $185 per session:
2 sessions per month — $370
4 sessions per month — $740
6 sessions per month — $1,110
8 sessions per month — $1,480
-
Kirsten is in-network with United Healthcare, Aetna and BlueCross BlueShield. For all other plans she is an out-of-network provider, and will give you a superbill to submit to your insurer for reimbursement. If you have out-of-network benefits, many plans reimburse a portion of each session, so it's worth calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking what your out-of-network mental health benefit covers.
-
Cancellations require 24 hours' notice. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged a $100 late cancellation fee.
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge. Rather than talking through an experience repeatedly, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation — typically guided eye movements — while you briefly hold the memory in mind. It's widely used for trauma, and Kirsten also draws on it for anxiety and for the lingering effects of emotionally abusive relationships.
-
It means treating the mind, body and nervous system as one system rather than three separate problems. In practice, alongside traditional talk therapy Kirsten works with nervous system regulation, and is trained in Reiki and as a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional, which covers the role nutrition plays in mood and energy. The talk therapy is still the foundation — the rest is what gets added when the body is clearly carrying part of the load.
